Book Overview

Victorian London: For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.

People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.

Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly "made" creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?

Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

C.J. Archer is the author of the bestselling Emily Chambers Spirit Medium and Freak House series. If you love historical novels with mystery, romance and a paranormal twist, THE LAST NECROMANCER is for you. It's the first book in the MINISTRY OF CURIOSITIES series.

This book kept me coming back for more. The characters were well developed to the point where I could visualize each of them. The little ruffian Charlie was very likable in spite of his street ways. His later transformation only made the story more interesting. The twists and turns in the story were unexpected, as was the ending. I breathed a sigh of relief when cook, Gus, Seth, Charlie and Fitzroy all ended up safe and together. At the very end of the story, Charlie goes to the cemetery to visit her mother's grave and spies two men stealing a corpse. A perfect basis for a sequel. The Last Necromancer is definitely worth reading!

Decided to check this book out since I had read CJ Archer's Freak House books. I must say this series is my favorite of all the related series. The characters have great personalities and are very entertaining. Can't wait for book 9.

  • Good book certainly worth the price!

This was a pretty good book all in all. It was fun to read, and developed a decent bond between character and reader. The book may be a bit simple and predictable, but I often find those can be the most fun books to read as I fly through the pages. I found the book worthwhile enough to purchase book 2 in the series, if that is any indication of its value. Certainly not on the level of say "Interview with a Vampire", but at the same time I found this book an enjoyable read that I would recommend. I am always on the hunt for undervalued books to read and this was certainly a wonderful surprise.
  • A Ridiculous Romance

    By HeyNonneyNonney
I picked up this book hoping for some mad science, but mostly got a rather ridiculous awkward romance instead. Well written and moves along at a good clip, but really wasn't what I had hoped for.
  • Multiple mysteries

This book is a page turner from the moment you begin reading. Character development is thorough and left this reader feeling like the characters came to life on the page. One mystery after another is slowly revealed as we learn more about the main character, Charlie, who, we find out, has been hiding something very important. When finally the mysterious V.F. was revealed I was happily surprised and gratified how well things began to be tied together. Read this as soon as you can. This is the beginning of another great series by C.J. Archer; personally I can’t wait.
