Supermarine Spitfire Mk V
|

18/10/2009
This is one of Mushroom Model Publication's Yellow Series (No. 6111) 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" card covered, square bound monographs. It is 128 pages and is from 2004.
In common with other Yellow Series monographs this book offers fairly complete coverage although a service history is beyond the scope of the Yellow Series. Despite this there are useful tables of Spitfire V units for all users. Also, coverage is restricted fairly closely to the Mark V. Hooked Mark Vs used by the FAA are covered but Seafires proper are not.
The book is divided into several sections. There is 27 page development history which does a very nice job of detailing the differences among the various Mark V subtypes and among the factories which produced them. Next, there are 15 pages detailing RAF use. Then comes 11 pages of RAF camouflage and markings schemes. 21 pages of foreign users follow. There are 13 pages of technical description including very useful line drawings and specifications. A page of bibliography follows. 12 pages of color close up shots of Spitfire V preserved examples and 28 pages of color profiles finish out the book.
This is a book that should be on the shelf of any Spitfire fan and anyone contemplating modelling the Mark V. Highly recommended. A book that Mushroom should consider reissuing surely?
